We purchased these boxes in a larger closeout from a rather top-quality manufacture. The boxes did not include any hardware so we had to find the “right” pieces to complete this large teak box.
We purchased $150 in stainless steel accessories to compliment the box quality. The quality of the box is a good 4 out of 5. The hardware is simply 5 out of 5. When you buy standard Indonesian import teak boxes, you often get a box quality that is 2.5-3 out of 5. And the hardware is typically 2-3 out of 5. This is the standard import quality and thinking. Why invest $150 in hardware when $15 will do just fine! I have often said look at anyone’s hardware. If they designed with cheap hardware, then what do you expect from the rest of the construction?!
Also, these boxes are unique in the fact between the teak is some foam material. It is not a void. Therefore, between each piece of teak is about 1/4″ of black foam. It’s a unique and odd difference in any teak box. It was clear the designers of this box were not trying to make the standard box. We have never seen this before in any teak box – another sign it came from a full machine factory and not the hut craftsmen.
The hardware will come unattached. You will need to attach the hinges, handle bars, and interior top shock absorber. This will take 15-30 minutes on top of the 30 minutes needed to assemble the actual box.
The box is similar to the rather expensive $2500 boxes, but we guess the actual price to be about $1500. Do not confuse this box with a standard Indo box costing $500-$800. In addition to the hardware cost, it took us 3-4 days of labor to search and find the right pieces to complete the box. Who has a cooler looking box than this?! The handles are the ‘detail’ that complete the look. The hinges and handles are 304 stainless steel. The shocks are German Hafele brand and not Huban Chinese ($40 versus $5).
We only have about 10. They will arrive in early spring – march. You can add your name to the list on the product page and you will get an email when they arrive. The pictures are fresh from design and not even packed and cleaned for shipping.
The exterior size of the box is 63″ wide x 27″ deep x 28″ height
The interior of the box is 59.5″ wide x 24″ deep x 24″ height
These boxes are x3 the size of the Jepara teak box.
