This 84cm x 183cm (33″ x 72″) coffee table is made from recycled railroad sleeper ties and other
recycled wood pieces. The tabletop is semi-level, but does feature
uneven patches of wood. The table is incredibly dense, strong, and
solid.
The railroad ties were laid across Indonesia in the early
18th-19th century and made of ironwood. The railroad ties were not
treated, as they were in the USA. As the old railroad ties are removed
and replaced with concrete, the old ties are commonly used for furniture
production. This table looks good
indoors or outdoors. For over 200 years, this wood carried trains and
other goods across Indonesia. The next 200 years will likely carry a
softer load.
The tables can have mortised-tenon
signs, peg holes, and other signs of previous use. Some of the wood
may contain remnants of old home construction – typically in the leg.
Ironwood will normally show less erosion than teak and be darker in color. Ironwood can also come from a few other recycled sources other than railroad sleepers.
Each table is unique. Actual pictures are shown. This item must ship freight. You can save money by combining this item with other items in a larger freight shipment.
